HMS Update

#14: March 8, 2024

Dear HMS parents, guardians and caregivers, We hope this message finds you well and enjoying the early spring we are experiencing! The month of March continues to be full of a variety of activities here at HMS, and we appreciate the time you take to review the information in our bi-monthly updates. Pictured below is a group of sixth graders sharing their "power poses" after completing their Pitch Project, where they advocated for change in our school or community. Well done, sixth graders! Our next HMS Update will be sent on March 22, 2024. We encourage you to please reach out with any questions you may have. As always, thank you for your partnership. With Gratitude, Mandy Lewis and Tom McDowell HMS Administrative Team

That's great too - we have volunteer positions at every level.

To indicate your possible interest in any level of volunteering (or to update your volunteer interests), please fill out our 2-minute Volunteer Survey: http://bit.ly/PTOVolunteerSurvey . There is no better time than the present to get involved and make a difference in the lives of our students!

The next PTO meeting will be March 21st at 7:00 pm. ALL OUR WELCOME!

The location is YES library.

HMS Blood Drive

Blood donation

Our 7th grade is hosting a community blood drive on Wednesday, March 13th from 2:30-7:30 PM in the HMS cafeteria. There is a great need for blood throughout the year, but the Red Cross is experiencing an extreme shortage at this time.

If you are willing to donate blood please register at this direct link (enter the zip code 04096) or online at https://www.redcross.org/give-blood.html. If you do decide to make a donation, please be sure to bring picture identification or your donor card to the blood drive.

Solar eclipse

Solar Eclipse Early Release

Dr. Dolloff shared that all Yarmouth schools will be having an early release on Monday, April 8th. The partial eclipse begins shortly before our dismissal time leading into a full eclipse at 3:31, and that presents some potential safety challenges for eye safety. We will be dismissing students at 1:00 pm, starting with bussers, that day so students have transition time to be in a safe place during the time period that looking directly at at the sun without safety glasses is the most dangerous.

On that day, thanks to the support of the Yarmouth Education Foundation, we will be providing safety glasses for all students. We will also have students engaged in learning experiences about the eclipse. The goal is to take advantage of this great learning opportunity while also taking these steps to make sure our students are safe.

The NSTA Eclipse Guide is ideal for caregivers.  The guide gives information about the event and how to view it safely.

Trimester 2 ends on March 12, 2024
