HMS Update

#15: March 22, 2024

Dear HMS parents, guardians and caregivers, We hope this message finds you well. Our March madness will end with Spirit Week from March 25-29th, and the details about all of our spirited activities are below. We want to thank the members of our Student Leadership Team for helping us plan a Spirit Week that includes a collection for our local food pantry, bringing awareness to what items are most in need at this time. Our next HMS Update will be sent on April 5, 2024. We encourage you to please reach out with any questions you may have. As always, thank you for your partnership. With Gratitude, Mandy Lewis and Tom McDowell HMS Administrative Team

Congratulations to Lillian Kew for representing Harrison Middle School at the Youth Art Month Exhibit at the Portland Museum of Art. She is pictured here with her painting of a lighthouse. Well done, Lily!

HMS Dance: March 29, 2024

HMS is having a dance on March 29, 2024 from 6:30pm-8pm. We will emphasize the same student expectations for this upcoming dance:

-Students attending the dance must arrive within 15 minutes of the start time (by 6:45pm).

-To keep students safe, they will stay until the dance is over and be picked up by an adult or adult designee. If a student needs to be picked up before the end of the dance, a parental note and administrative permission is needed.

-All HMS student behavior expectations apply to the dance. Cell phone use is not permitted.  The purpose is for students to socialize in person with those who are at the dance.  Students are encouraged to leave their cell phones at home.  If a student needs to keep a cell phone with them, the phone must remain in their coat pocket.

-Students will have no need for backpacks or water bottles. Please leave these at home.  Cups for water will be provided.

-The Student Leadership Team is hoping that parents and guardians will provide individually packaged snacks for students to enjoy during the dance.  If you are able to donate snack items, please drop them off next week (March 25-29).  Items such as single-serving pretzels, goldfish crackers, etc. would be appreciated.

Young Author Camps

Young Author Camps are an incredible opportunity for young writers. Dynamic, engaging writing experiences, facilitated by experienced, passionate teachers. Students explore a wide array of genres and develop their skills through playful exploration, guided practice, and even some art to enhance the writing experience. Our Young Author Camps provide students a place to write in a relaxed, comfortable, and creative environment where they can bring their love of writing to life.
