HMS Update

#18: May 10, 2024

Dear HMS parents, guardians, and caregivers, It feels great to see the sunshine outside. Today brings National Teacher Appreciation Week to an end, and we want to encourage you, if you have not already done so, to reach out to your child/children's teachers. Sharing some thoughtful words has a huge impact on our educators, and it is never too late. Thank you for the ways you support HMS educators throughout the school year and particularly during this week! Please continue to reach out with any questions. Our next newsletter will be sent on May 24, 2024. Thank you so much for your partnership! With Gratitude, Mandy Lewis and Tom McDowell HMS Administrative Team

HMS Bike Safety

It is great to see the number of bikers increase as the weather gets warmer! We want to share some safety reminders with you as the number bikers in Yarmouth increases. If you are driving always yield for children in the crosswalk, slow down, and give people on bikes plenty of space. The Bicycle Coalition of Maine has some great educational materials on bike safety basics. There are additional safety tips on the town's website here. We will be sharing reminders with students as well.

Personal Devices at School (reminder)

We have noticed an increase in students using personal devices, cell phones, and smart watches during the school day. This is a friendly reminder that the use of personal devices between the hours of 8am-2:45pm is strictly prohibited, even if a student is using the personal device to communicate with a parent. Students have access to a phone in the Main Office, and if a parent needs to get a message to a student, we can easily assist with that if you call us at 846-2499.

No smart watches/cell phones

PTO - Thank you!

We want to extend a huge thank you to our PTO and the many HMS parents and families who provided us with a delicious lunch in recognition of Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. We are so grateful for the support of the Yarmouth community. It really makes a difference!

Thank you

Step Up Day

Spring Transition - Step Up Day in June

On Thursday, June 13 we will hold our annual “Step Up Day” for all grades. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to meet their next year's teacher, learn who will be in their homeroom next year, and hopefully help with any anxiety that students may have about moving onward and upward. The last day of school is a half day on Friday, June 14.

If you are moving or anticipate that your child will not be attending Yarmouth Schools next year, please reach out to us in the main office to help with our planning for student placement.
