Bus Routes, Arrival and Dismissal

The link for bus schedules for this school year is provided here. Reach out to the Transportation Department with any questions: 207-846-2338.

Buses will be using the bus loop during student arrival each morning.  Our buses will be dropping students at HMS between 7:40-7:45 a.m. Cars will be able to access the bus loop after all buses have dropped off students.  Students may arrive at school between 7:40 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. Our afternoon dismissal will begin at 2:45 p.m. for students taking the bus home. Those students riding bicycles and those students walking home will be dismissed after the buses depart. Students being picked up by parents / guardians will be dismissed around 2:53 p.m.

HMS Open House

The HMS Open House will take place on Wednesday, September 17 from 6-7:30pm, and it is a night designed for parents and guardians only.  We will use the following schedule for different grade levels during our Open House. Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit their children’s classroom during the time specified:

  • 6:00-6:30 - 6th grade parents and guardians are with their subteam teachers

  • 6:30-7:00 - 7th grade parents and guardians are with their subteam teachers

  • 7:00-7:30 - 8th grade parents and guardians are with their subteam teachers

Parents and guardians are also encouraged to visit other classroom spaces.  All spaces will be open, and teachers will be present and will share information about their classes.

We will need your help in making the evening a success!  Parking will be limited.  We encourage you to walk, bike, or carpool, if possible.  We also encourage you to allow ample time to arrive.  Parking will be available in the HMS parking lot, at the Yarmouth Elementary School and Central Office, along one side of McCartney Street, and along one side of Hillside Street.  We are working with the Yarmouth Police Department to help direct traffic and ensure we all have a safe Open House event.

Counselor's Corner

Hello and Welcome to a new school year! We are very excited to welcome back our returning students and welcome our incoming 6th graders and students and families that are new to our district this year. Although this year many school supplies will be provided by our school, students will need a backpack and a lunch box for snack/home lunch (if they plan to bring lunch from home). Water bottles are also highly recommended. For families who need assistance with these items or any other items related to school supplies, please reach out to us anytime:

HMS Student Handbook: Highlights

logo

The HMS Student Handbook is linked on this page of our website for your review. HMS educators will spend time highlighting certain details of the student handbook with students during the first few weeks of school. We wanted to bring a few expectations to your attention and ask for your help.

School Attendance

Our school day begins at 8:00am. Brenda Van Dzura and Jenny Buerhaus, our Main Office Administrative Assistants, help us with accurate attendance daily.  If you know your child will be absent, please call the school (207-846-2499) and leave a message or speak with someone directly. You may also email Brenda at: brenda_vandzura@yarmouthschools.org.

Your child’s consistent school attendance is one of the most important ways they can be set up for success.  We recognize that there are days when students cannot be in school due to sickness, medical appointments, or urgent family matters. We urge you to schedule extended family trips during school vacations. Please keep in mind that when a student misses school, they miss instruction and that learning experience cannot be replicated through makeup work.

To read more about our attendance procedures, please visit the Attendance section of our Student Handbook.

PTO Update

Yarmouth PTO 2025-2026

As our students prepare to board buses and hop on bikes, we're busy gearing up for another exciting year of PTO programming. Are you curious about the Yarmouth PTO? Here's a quick overview of what we do:

Our mission is to support and enhance the school experience for students, families, and teachers by providing financial and educational support for quality programming and enrichment. That means we wear a lot of hats—often we’re fundraising, organizing events like the Glow Run to help raise money for things like field trips (such as the 5th grade trip to Boston!), author visits, and supplemental supplies.

Other times, we’re FUNraising, building a strong sense of community by connecting parents, teachers, and students through exciting and meaningful activities like Make-It Take-It, the Ice Cream Social, welcome playdates, and more.

All of this work is done entirely by volunteers who collaborate with school administrators and community members to make the Yarmouth school community a welcoming, joyful place to learn and grow. On average, the PTO spends $50 per student throughout the course of the year. Will you help kick off the year with a donation to the PTO? Thank you!

Welcome Packet

Is your family new to the area? Or would you just like to learn more about local offerings? Check out our digital Welcome Packet, a live, comprehensive document that has information about local and state events, attractions, resources, and much more.

First PTO Meeting of the Year

Please join us for our first PTO meeting of the year on Thursday, September 18th at 7 PM in the YES library. Our meetings are open to everyone and we encourage you to attend. We look forward to seeing you!

PTO Gather & Greet

The Yarmouth PTO would like to trial hosting an informal, regularly-scheduled drop-in coffee hour (Gather & Greet) at a local cafe for parents and community members hoping to learn more about the organization. (It's also a nice opportunity just to chat with other parents!) We're targeting Wednesdays after YES drop-off (9 am) or lunchtime (noon) and are seeking input about which time would be preferable. Please let us know which might work better for you here.

Thanks for all of your support of the PTO! We're looking forward to a great year!
