From the Principal!

Good Afternoon, Rowe Families!

What an amazing first month of school together we have had! Our young learners are settling into their new classroom communities, learning the routines and procedures of our school, and building relationships with everyone around them, setting the stage for an amazing year of learning ahead!

Highlights From September!

Pre-K Explorers!

The youngest learners at Rowe are settling into Pre-K so well! They have been busy getting to know their teachers and classmates, the routines and procedures at Rowe School, and what it means to be at school all day! Here you can see some Pre-K explorers exploring the materials in the discovery table ~ a very popular center across all Pre-K classrooms.

Community Meeting!

This week, we began holding our grade-level community meetings! As a school, we are currently exploring what respect looks like, so we focused on this concept during the community meeting. To help us explore and think about respect, we read a book together called "The Smallest Girl in the Smallest Grade," written by Justin Roberts. After reading this book together, students brainstormed how they can be respectful to their classmates, to their teachers, and to their school! Pre-K and First grade will have their first community meeting next week. Be sure to ask your Rowe learner about their experience with the Community Meeting!

We are READERS and WRITERS!!

Our Kindergarten and First Grade learners are already working hard to grow their reading and writing tool kits. Pictured here are kindergarten learners in Mrs. Caron's class working hard to learn about and identify letters, words, and sentences!

Morning Drop Off

Thank you, thank you, thank YOU for helping to keep our arrival (and dismissal) procedures running so smoothly!! Everyone attending and adhering to our protocols helps ensure we can focus on welcoming and supporting our young learners' transition into their school day. Just a couple of brief reminders:

~ If you are going to exit your car and walk your child to the front entrance, please park in the parking lot, rather than in the drop-off line (marked in this photo with the blue arrows). This lane is designated for quick transitions to keep the line moving.

~ Family members are not permitted to accompany their child beyond the front entrance. We have lots of supportive adults ready to partner with any kiddo who needs a little extra TLC during their transition into school.

Yarmouth has a new Art Map!

Yarmouth Public Art has created a walking map of the public art here in town. Yarmouth's own children's author, Gail Clarke, created the map to show where various art installations are located throughout town! You can view a PDF of the entire map HERE.

Points With the Principal

I am so excited to share our new family engagement series we are starting at Rowe School! We will be hosting a "Points With the Principal" session each month(ish!) where families can come learn more about topics/components of our school, ask questions, and be part of the conversation and our growth! Topics, dates/times, and links to RSVP can be found on THIS DOCUMENT.

Our very first session will focus on social, emotional, and behavioral learning at Rowe School, as well as disciplinary processes and procedures, and will be held on Monday, October 20, from 8:40-9:40ish in the Rowe library. Light refreshments will be provided! Please be sure to RSVP so we know how many we can plan for. We look forward to seeing all who can make it!

Rowe Learners are learning about RESPECT!

This week, Rowe learners have started thinking about respect! Within this learning, students will be working to develop skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership. In the classroom, they have been working to develop their "Strong Listening" skills. These skills include:

  • Eyes are ready

  • Ears are listening

  • Brain is focused

  • Heart is caring

Some connection questions you might be able to use at home with your child to reinforce this learning are:

  • How have you shown respect through Strong Listening lately?

  • What family members do you want to celebrate for their respect?
