Clippers Fall Athletes: The accolades keep coming!

Along with both Girls' and Boys' Soccer teams and the Volleyball team capturing State Championships, individual honors have been bestowed on dozens of YHS athletes and coaches.

Amazingly, 58 Clipper student-athletes showed that they put the "student" in student-athlete, earning All-Academic honors for the Western Maine Conference. Of those individuals, 29 were also named to their respective All-Conference teams in recognition of their athletic performance.

You can view the list of these students on our YHS Athletics webpage, while our State and New England honorees are listed below.

Girls' Soccer: Aine Powers - Maine Class B Player of the Year, All-New England, All-State, and All-Region

Regan Sullivan - All-State and All-Region

Taylor Oranellas & Kadin Davoren - All-Region

Andy Higgins - Regional Coach of the Year

Boys' Soccer: Adam McLaughlin & Jon Fulton - All-New England, All-State, and All-Region

Justin Dawes - All-Region

Field Hockey: Sophie Smith - All-State

Football: Mike McGonagle - All-Region, Regional Player of the Year, Fitzpatrick Semi-finalist

Superintendent proposes 2024-2025 school budget

On January 25 and 29, the School Committee held public workshops to receive the Superintendent's proposed Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) School Department Budget. The budget proposal may be viewed in narrative form or as a slide deck on the district finance page.

The next steps in the approval process will be two public hearings of the proposed budget at School Committee meetings, followed by Town Council consideration and, finally, voter approval.

Budget priorities in a pyramid

We encourage voters in Yarmouth to engage in the budget deliberation process, as it is the local community that provides much of the financial support for the schools. All of the meetings listed below are public meetings where citizens are provided with an opportunity to address the School Committee and/or Town Council to share their hopes and expectations of the Yarmouth Schools.

Equity Review Report received

In October, Yarmouth Schools hosted three professionals who comprised the Equity Review Team provided for us by SchoolWorks.

Dr. Sean Larry Stevens was the team leader, joined by Lyn Bajaj and Dr. Charles King. These individuals came to us from different regions of the country to gather data and share their insights on our work in ensuring an equitable learning experience for all students.

The result of their effort is the recently released Equity Review Report for the Yarmouth Schools. This report has been shared with the District Leadership Team, the School Committee, and the Mission Committee, along with Intercultural Leadership Groups at each of our schools.

It is our intent to make use of the recommendations in the Equity Review Report to further our work, engaging staff, students, and community members whenever necessary to promote a safe, inclusive learning environment for every student.

Today's FAQ: When is the last day of school?

This is most definitely a frequently asked question! As of today, the final student day of school for the 2023-2024 school year is Tuesday, June 11. That date will be pushed out one day for each "snow day" we have this winter (and spring). So far, our snow day count is at zero for the school year, and we are on track to end the school year quite early. If we use three snow days, pushing the final day to Friday, June 14, any weather-related closing after that point will result in a remote learning day.

If you haven't signed up for the Yarmouth Schools app, you are encouraged to find us on the app store and add us to your mobile device, so you'll be among the first to know if school is delayed or canceled!

We are even fielding some questions about NEXT YEAR'S school calendar. The School Committee will be reviewing the proposed calendar at its next regular meeting, scheduled for Thursday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Log Cabin on Main Street. Stay tuned!
