From the Principals

Dear YES Families,

Despite winter weather making a late-season comeback, spring is officially here, and we are looking forward to the last few months of the school year!

It continues to be a wonderful year of learning, growth, and fun at YES. March was a busy parent-teacher conference month and we thank you for your partnership. As always, we greatly appreciate the combined efforts of all as we support our students' success.

Best,

Ryan Gleason, YES Principal & Molly Kilpatrick, YES Assistant Principal

April Autism Acceptance Month

In April, the YES community is proud to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month. Here in the United States, more than 5.4 million adults are autistic, and 1 in every 44 children has been diagnosed with autism.

This month we celebrate the achievements of neurodiverse people everywhere and champion the equal rights and dignity of all those living on the autism spectrum.

Kindness Week April 7-11

From April 7-11, YES will celebrate our annual "Kindness Week". Our annual kindness initiative is our World of Change fundraiser. We will finish our fundraiser on April 16.

Each day of the week will also feature a "Kindness Challenge" issued at announcements each morning. They include:

  • Monday: BE KIND TO YOURSELF

  • Tuesday: BE KIND TO FAMILY MEMBERS

  • Wednesday: BE KIND TO CLASSMATES

  • Thursday: BE KIND TO FRIENDS

  • Friday: BE KIND TO NEIGHBORS

On Thursday, April 17th World of Change will bring their change truck to YES, and classroom representatives will help load all of the change we have raised into the truck. When we return from April break we will learn how much money our school has raised for several local worthy causes.

NEWS FROM THE YARMOUTH PTO

2025-2026 PTO ROLES

Are you looking to get more involved with the PTO during the next school year? Our annual elections are coming up and we're actively seeking board members, committee chairs, and volunteers! Board members are elected positions, and elections will be held at the PTO meeting on May 15th at 7pm in the YES library.

We anticipate the following openings:

  • Treasurer

  • Parent Education Coordinator

  • Volunteer Coordinator

If you're a caretaker of a student in the Yarmouth school system, you're automatically a part of the PTO and eligible to run for any seat. There is no deadline for nominations; you may decide to run at any time up until the moment of voting at our board meeting on May 15th. Any Yarmouth resident can vote, and all are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Committee membership is another great way to be involved in the community. We're seeking chairs (or co-leadership) for the Glow Run committee and the Staff Appreciation committee, as well as committee members for any and all events and fundraisers.

If you're interested in any capacity, from leadership roles to one-time event volunteering, please fill out this form and we will be in touch. We hope you'll join us!

If you have further questions about PTO involvement, please don't hesitate to reach out directly at yarmouthpto04096@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ON APRIL 7TH

Don't miss the community-wide discussion around the book The Disengaged Teen: Helping Kids Learn Better, Feel Better, and Live Better by Jenny Anderson and Rebecca Winthrop. Despite the word "teen" in the title, the topics are applicable throughout the school years, exploring how we can help our children become flexible, motivated learners that are prepared to navigate uncertainty and succeed in the 21st century.

There's no need to have read the book ahead of time, attended the first two sessions, or even RSVP! Just show up, bring your friends, and be ready for a lively conversation as we ponder these questions: How could we move forward utilizing these teaching methods? What would it mean for Yarmouth Schools and Yarmouth Parents?

The discussion will take place in the YHS cafeteria from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. We hope to see you there!
