October 2024

From the Principals

Happy October! These first few weeks of school have flown by so quickly. Our students have settled nicely into their classroom routines and school-wide expectations. It has been a fantastic start to the year at YES. We hope that your children are excited about their learning experiences so far and looking forward to the year ahead!

The procedures and daily activities of your child’s learning experience should now start to be much more familiar and more comfortable for them. If your child is still experiencing anxiety or any type of concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or school counselors. You are welcome to also include us in those types of communications. Please don’t ever hesitate to contact us – we are here to help.

Fall is a busy time at YES, and we have lots of important information to share with you, along with some highlights of the school year so far!

Best,

Ryan Gleason, YES Principal & Molly Kilpatrick, YES Assistant Principal

Open House 2024 & Volunteer/Guest Teacher Information

We would like to thank all those who were able to join us for our Open House and Band Information Nights that took place throughout the month of September. We value your support, partnership, and collaboration.

On that note, there is always a need for volunteers. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer for any of our schools, the Yarmouth School Department requires school volunteers to complete a volunteer registration form each year.

We also welcome interest in being a substitute guest teacher at our all our schools. If that is something you are interested in, please see the attached information, and you can check out THIS LINK to apply! We need guest teachers for all roles, including the school nursing offices.

YES September Community Meeting

On Friday, September 14th our YES School Community came together for the first time this year in the gym. These school-wide monthly meetings are an opportunity to recognize and celebrate our core values of respect, caring, fairness, and citizenship in different ways.

This month we looked at our core values through the lens of the playground. Our YES Playground Committee presented to the school, and students reviewed expectations and celebrated the positive leadership that has been displayed so far this year. There was movement, fun, school spirit, and community building!

We look forward to our October Community Meeting, where our third-grade teachers will lead the school in our "Pumpkin Book Characters" tradition.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Classroom teachers will be reaching out to you in the next few weeks to schedule parent-teacher conferences for later this fall. We plan for all conferences to be in-person but you can communicate with your child’s teacher if you prefer to meet virtually.

The conference window runs through October and mid-November. This is an opportunity for you to get an update as to how your child is progressing academically and as a member of the classroom and school community. It is also a time to learn how your child can specifically grow as a learner and understand ways that you can help support that process. Again, we appreciate your collaboration and partnership!

October 9th ~ Walking School Bus for Rowe & YES

October 9th is International Walk and Roll to School Day, and to celebrate in Yarmouth we will be having a Walking School Bus. We will assemble at Royal River Park parking lot (across the street from the Historical Society) at 8:00 to depart at 8:10. We will then walk along the sidewalks up Elm Street to the intersection with Main Street. At Main Street, our Rowe walkers will turn left to continue down Main Street to the walking path across from Hancock Lumber. Our YES walkers will follow the crossing guard's instructions across Main Street to continue up West Elm Street to the walkers' path.

Please feel free to join up with us anywhere along these routes!

Parents and siblings are encouraged to attend. Please ensure that your child has plans to get home independently since there will be no Walking School Bus in the afternoon, however regular bus lines will be running in the morning and afternoon. This is a walking school bus, please no wheels.

We look forward to seeing you!

Rowe and YES Walking School Bus, Wednesday, October 9th, beginning at Royal River Park at 8:00 AM.
